The German government is providing aid to hoteliers who have suffered considerable financial hardship due to corona.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) have once again extended and significantly simplified the bridging assistance available as part of the COVID-19 Pandemic Response.
Who can apply?
Any accommodation provider that is a legally independent unit (with its own legal personality) regardless of its legal form that is economically active on the market (including non-profit companies or social enterprises, organizations, and associations).
This includes but is not limited to:
- Hotels
- Lodges
- Bed and breakfasts
- Guesthouses
- Motels
- Hostels
- Inns, and more
Companies that are not managed by a German tax office, companies without a domestic permanent establishment or domicile, and public companies are not eligible for aid.
What has changed?
Additional fixed costs are eligible for funding: among other things, investments in digitalization (e.g. hotel software) are eligible for a one-time grant of up to 20,000 Euros.
How do I apply?
The application can be made through a tax advisor, a chartered accountant, a lawyer, or a sworn auditor. These costs are subsidized, as well.
What if I have applied in the past?
No problem. Bridging Assistance III can be applied for if you have received assistance before.
When can I apply?
Anytime before the application deadline, 31 August 2021. However, we recommend that you apply as soon as possible for the greatest chance of receiving aid.
