protel leads industry survey on hotel software

protel hotelsoftware GmbH heads the field of the leading hotel management system providers regarding customer satisfaction and functionality. This was revealed by the latest survey among 10,689 German hotel businesses conducted by the independent market research institute “The Business Target Group” in May/June 2011. The survey also confirmed protel holding the second largest market share next to the world market leader in hotel software.

Study on hotel management shows strongly fragmented market

A survey of the renowned market research institute “The Business Target Group” investigated the German market that is highly fragmented in every aspect. Market shares alone indicate the disparity of competing providers of hotel management software in Germany: Only two software providers, Micros Fidelio (20%) and protel (14%), share the upper third. The other two thirds consist of more than 50 software providers, none of which reach more than 7.5%.

Among the renowned software providers, solutions by protel claimed the leading position twice: Questioned about the range of functions used in their businesses and their satisfaction with the customer service, 97% of all protel customers stated they are “satisfied” or “very satisfied”. More than 10,600 accommodation businesses were surveyed. The majority of the 8,792 businesses who actively participated are within a 3 or 4-star category, offer between twenty and a hundred rooms and use an external software solution. In this context, it is particularly remarkable, however, that still almost 20% of the respondents stated they do not use any software at all.

The results of the institute’s research confirm protel’s continued success, which started back in 1994, when protel first stirred the market by developing the first MS Windows based hotel management system. By now, almost all businesses using hotel management software are working with a Windows based solution: The mouse has conquered the hotel once and for all. protel´s recently introduced SaaS solution “protel Air” and the first entirely mobile property management system for the iPad further strengthens protel´s reputation as innovation leader.
